History of East Cobb Park In 1998, a group of individuals associated with the East Cobb Area Council of the Cobb Chamber
of Commerce joined together to form the non-profit Friends for the East Cobb Park. Their unifying
vision was to create a passive Park that would serve as a community gathering place. Their goal was
to raise funds sufficient to purchase an appropriate property and deed it to Cobb County who would
develop and maintain the Park.

Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs has performed a miracle in putting
our Park back together. Director Eddie Cannon announced that the park would re-open
Sunday, September 27. Even
though an amazing amount of work was accomplished by these dedicated people, there
is much left to do.

Sope Creek, which runs alongside East Cobb Park, flooded the main playground
and the grass fields, washed away all of the playground mulch, washed away benches,
uprooted and washed away plants and shrubbery, dug trenches, and at the highest point,
water was 4 feet above the park's bridge connecting to Fuller’s Park. Trees
have fallen on the bridge and knocked out part of a fence surrounding the playground.
Friends for the East Cobb Park has worked in partnership with Cobb County
Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department to beautify and enhance the park,
making it a showcase of what teamwork can accomplish. It is at this time that we
need your help to restore the park to its previous state. Donations are critical
to our efforts. Preliminary estimated damage is about $150,000. We need your help
now more than ever!
